Klahoose Forestry Limited Partnership is an 11-staff member subsidiary of Qathen Xwegus Management Corporation (QXMC) that is managed by Klahoose First Nation.
Located in Squirrel Cove, BC on Cortes Island, Klahoose Forestry is responsible for managing a sawmill, a Toba Valley Community Forest Licence (CFL) and co-administering the Cortes CFL with the Cortes Community Forest Cooperative, which represents more than 200 island residents. The Cooperative is responsible for more than 3,700 hectares of Crown land in various forests located around the island. Under the Cortes CFL, the partners can harvest up to 13,600 cubic metres of timber annually.
In operation since 2008, Klahoose Forestry is known for its strategic, sustainable, and selective ecosystem-based forestry plan which includes recognizing the impact forestry operations can have on wildlife and the environment.
