The strategic plan defines the mandate and activities to be undertaken by CoastForest to achieve the Association’s vision, mission and objectives. It outlines CoastForest’s responsibility and the role of the Association in delivering these objectives.

Going forward, CoastForest activities will be consistent in terms of messages and continuity of approach in order to position the Association as the credible and unified voice of the coastal industry. This strategic plan and new brand will form the basis for expansion of CoastForest membership.

To promote and protect the interests and rights of its members by providing leadership, advocacy, consultation and dialogue with stakeholders. Members competitiveness will be supported by securing:
Affordable and available fibre supply through participation in policy development of forest practices, allowable annual cut determination and timber pricing
Unfettered market access for the industry’s products

The CoastForest strategic plan has four elements:
1. Government Relations and Public Affairs
2. Communications and Branding
3. Membership
4. Policy Priorities

The mandate builds on the current services and activities provided by the CFLA.

Government Relations and Public Affairs
CoastForest will be a strong regional association speaking as the unified voice of the coastal forest industry. The Association will ensure that the Association’s government relations strategies, messages and activities are clearly communicated to all members. The government relations effort will be supported by a communications strategy that focuses on creating positive messages about the industry supported by factual information.

Communications and Branding
CoastForest will focus on increasing communications activities to create a distinctive CoastForest brand and policy voice. The communications strategy has incorporated “Embracing a New Vision – Rebuilding B.C.’s Coastal Forest Industry” as the foundation for “From Crisis to Collective Action – A New Vision Emerges.” The report defines 10 main objectives CoastForest strives toward:

1. World-class mills
2. A vibrant, growing, value-added industry
3. Brand-name products and expanded markets
4. Worldwide respect for environmental leadership
5. Successful resolution of land-use issues
6. World-class safety performance
7. More full-time, stable jobs
8. Workers leaving the industry are treated with dignity and respect
9. More opportunities for small businesses
10. Forest policies that benefit all British Columbians

Membership
The strength on an Association lies in its membership and their commitment to the Association. CoastForest will actively look to expanding its membership.
