![]() Major areas of coastal B.C. have been formally set aside to protect forests, lakes, air, water and wildlife. A remarkable feat has been achieved - over 13 percent of the coast Crown land base is already protected. There are few, if any, areas in the world that even come close to such a significant accomplishment. The coast leads the world in protecting and managing its forests. The Coast of B.C. has protected areas exceeding 2.2 million hectares. The Coast of B.C. has just under 3 million hectares - "the working forest" - managed ecologically for timber and other resource values. The Coast of B.C. has an additional 11.5 million hectares of wilderness, much of which is comprised of temperate forests, contributing to biological diversity, fish, wildlife, and recreational values that are prized by all British Columbians. |
