![]() The Log Handling Facilities Guidebook was developed cooperatively with regulatory agencies, principally Fisheries and Oceans Canada and CoastForest. The Guidebook focuses on providing general guidance to forest companies, consultants and regulatory agency staff in the development of site-specific plans and practices for locating and operating log handling facilities. The Guidebook is not legislation, but rather a document that relies on professional and technical judgement to incorporate industrial log handling practices that prevent or limit damage to fish and high value fish habitat. One of the key features of the Guidebook is the recognition that habitat, depending on productivity, sensitivity, rareness, etc, varies value and importance from an ecological perspective. The habitat rating system identifies habitat types (critical, important, marginal) and provides an indication of the level of detail required for proponent submissions and the likelihood of approval for specific applications. The Guidebook can found on both of the web sites noted below. http://www.stewardshipcentre.bc.ca/sc_bc/main/index.asp?sProv=bc http://www-heb.pac.dfo-mpo.gc.ca/publications/pdf/274124.pdf |
