Coast Forest Products Association has completed its spring annual general meeting marking its 22nd year of representing British Columbia’s coastal forest industry. In 1994, the world was a different place - Jean Chrétien was our prime minister, the North American Free Trade Agreement came into effect, and our industry was buried under the paperwork of the NDP Forest Practices Code. In today’s challenging economic environment, government and industry feel the pressure to operate more efficiently, seek out process improvements, and find cost reduction opportunities. When it comes to coastal log handling, log value is reduced every time a log is "touched". Therefore, it is essential to identify opportunities to eliminate "waste" (i.e. those log handling steps that add no value) in order to maintain a competitive coast forest industry. Read on.

Pulp & Paper companies, including Coast Forest’s CatalystPaper and Howe Sound Pulp and Paper; the Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations; Ministry of Energy and Mines; Ministry of Jobs, Tourism Skills, Training and Labour; Ministry of Technology, Innovation and Citizen Services; FPInnovations and the University of British Columbia. Western Forest Products Recognized for Environmental Practices
Coast Forest’s member Western Forest Products (WFP) continues to be recognized for its commitment to environmental planning and sustainable practices. After a recent audit conducted by the Forest Practices Board, WFP's operations in Campbell River were noted for its alignment with the Act's environmental safety regulations involving terrain and electronic bridge management.
