In the Post-Election World, Coastal Forestry’s Next Steps need to be Taken Together

Coast Forest Products Association congratulates the BC Liberal Party for their impressive victory in the 2013 provincial election. Their return to government means continuity of the good policy work accomplished so far in forestry.

The BC Liberal Party election platform, "Strong Economy, Secure Tomorrow," represents many of the same ideals held by those of us in coastal forestry. We aim to achieve these by helping to inform sound policy, ensuring that public understanding matches the reality of our sector and that our partnerships are solid. Read On.

Forestry on the BC Coast - It's In The Fibre of Our Being

Forestry on the BC Coast - It's In The Fibre of Our Being

The coastal forest industry wants to set the record straight. While broad and catchy statements are often made about forestry, we are now in the final days of the provincial campaign when emotions run high and politics supersede fact in the public dialogue. Though industries can be depersonalized in the mix, the impact is personal to the hard working people whose lives depend on the health of forestry. To them, the consequences of misinformation pack a punch. Read on.

On behalf of Coast Forest Products Association, I would like to congratulate the Canada Wood Group for the May 4th, 2013 opening of the Yuriage Public Market. This is the result of an extraordinary partnership* between the Canadian forest industry, the Government of Canada and the Province of British Columbia and Alberta. All stepped up to the plate for our long-term friends in Japan during their time of need following the earthquake and tsunami disaster of March 2011.

Save Travels, Tom Lundgren - and Thanks

I find that forestry tends to attract some amazing people. Tom Lundgren is an excellent example. He's just retired from Interfor after spending more than 40 years as a forester in BC, and almost all of that on the coast. He will be sorely missed.

Mission Interpretive Forest Selected for Road Upgrades - and So Much More

The Coast Forest Products Association wishes to extend its sincere congratulations to the District of Mission for receiving approval from the Province of British Columbia for a $5 million dollar upgrade on logging roads in the Mission Interpretive Forest.  These planned road upgrades are an extension of the $1.5 million that was invested in 2011/12 on the first phase of construction. They satisfy the requirements for approval to construct the first ever British Columbian Tim Horton Children’s Foundation Camp (THCF) in the recreationally-allocated portion of the working Mission Municipal Forest.

In 2011, approximately four-fifths of B.C.'s international merchandise exports consisted of goods produced by the forestry, energy, mining and agri-food industries taken as a group. This proportion is little changed from ten years ago, and it is substantially higher than the share of resource-based goods in overall Canadian merchandise exports.
