Nanwakolas Acquisition of Knight Inlet Lodge

Published November 1st, 2017 by Nanwakolas Timber and the Knight Inlet Lodge

The Nanwakolas Timber Limited Partnership (“Nanwakolas”) and Dean and Kathy Wyatt are pleased to announce that the Knight Inlet Lodge has been sold to Nanwakolas. The sale closed on October 31, 2017. Nanwakolas is a First Nations controlled entity and is mandated to secure economic development opportunities for the benefit of its five limited partner First Nations (Da’naxda’xw Awaetlala, Mamalilikulla, Tlowitsis, Wei Wai Kum and K’ómoks First Nations) within their collective traditional territories.

TimberWest is the first SFI Program Participant to be Certified Under the Progressive Aboriginal Relations Program

TimberWest is the first Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) Program Participant to achieve the Canadian Council for Aboriginal Business (CCAB) Bronze certification under the Progressive Aboriginal Relations (PAR) program. This certification demonstrates to Indigenous communities that TimberWest is a good business partner, a great place to work and is committed to the prosperity of Indigenous communities. TimberWest is also the first BC forest company to earn PAR certification.

At the SFI 2017 Annual Conference in Ottawa a ceremonial canoe by artist Curtis Wilson, commissioned by TimberWest, was presented to the Honourable Jim Carr, Canada’s Minister of Natural Resources, by Hereditary Chief James Wilson of the Wei Wai Kum Nation, as a reminder of the important relationship between Indigenous Peoples and Canadian Forests.

Growing Support for Cornerstone Industry at the 2017 Union of BC Municipalities Convention

Coast Forest was one of many members of BC’s forest industry present this year’s UBCM Convention, working to increase understanding of BC’s cornerstone sector.

Representatives of Coast Forest and COFI co-sponsored a booth at the UBCM tradeshow, focusing on the discussion of the newly released B.C. Forest Industry Economic Impact Study. The study highlights the significant value of BC’s forest sector, from its impact on the economy, to its role as a major employer, providing over 140,000 jobs to British Columbians.
