Pacheedaht First Nation and TimberWest Sign Memorandum of Understanding

The Pacheedaht First Nation and TimberWest Forest Corp. signed a  Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to formalize a long-term collaborative commitment in support of First Nation culture, environmental stewardship and restoration projects, and forestry education, mentorship and business opportunities.

“TimberWest believes strongly in collaborative approaches with our neighbours,” says Jeff Zweig, President and CEO of TimberWest. “The MoU with the Pacheedaht First Nation will strengthen our relationship, open dialogue between us, and foster genuine collaborative initiatives that benefit both parties. We look forward to the next several years working alongside the Pacheedaht First Nation.”

Timberwest Forest Corporation continues donating to conservation efforts in Duncan, BC

November 7, 2016 saw TimberWest Forest Corp. donate the 94.5 hectare Somenos lakebed to Ducks Unlimited Canada (DUC). They continued their work for conservation and community commitment throughout the year with their Identity: Art as Life event, a $150,000 donation to the BC Forest Discovery Center’s new exhibit, and the recent Bronze certification achievement for becoming Progressive Aboriginal Relations Certified by the Canadian Council for Aboriginal Business.

Duties on Softwood Lumber Punish American Consumers, Workers and Homebuilders

B.C. lumber producers will continue to vigorously defend against the U.S. trade action on softwood lumber following the announcement today by the U.S. Department of Commerce on final duty rates. The combined duty rates for BC companies range from 20.83% to 23.76%.
