Coast Forest Products Association Applauds, Strong Past, Bright Future

FII truckCoast Forest Products Association and its member companies are very pleased to see the Province of British Columbia’s new competitiveness agenda released today.  Aptly named, Strong Past, Bright Future, the agenda advances strategic goals, while maintaining the very stringent regulatory regime and environmental standards the forest industry must adhere to, in a manner that will serve to benefit thousands of British Columbians, which includes a segment of over 38,000 individuals who rely on the coastal forest sector daily.

Statement on the Climate Leadership Plan

Coast Forest Products Association supports the August 2016 Climate Leadership Plan announced by the Province of British Columbia.

The Plan outlines a balanced, science-based approach to mitigate BC’s impact on climate change in the years ahead.  It correctly acknowledges forestry as a foundational industry which will aid in combating climate change through a multifaceted approach that addresses environmental, social and economic factors.

B.C.’s Climate Leadership Plan to cut emissions while growing the economy

The provincial government today unveiled the Climate Leadership Plan, leading to the creation of up to 66,000 jobs over the next ten years, and reducing net annual greenhouse gas emissions by up to 25 million tonnes below current forecasts by 2050.

BC Chief Foresters Meet in Campbell River

In July, the B.C. Chief Foresters’ Leadership Team consisting of Chief Foresters from across the province gathered in Campbell River to discuss the future of forestry in B.C., and exchange best practices on innovation technologies, sustainable forest management, and partnership engagement with local communities.

Diane Nicholls, British Columbia’s Chief Forester, hosted this meeting with the intent of convening future meetings in different regions of the province to gain a better understanding of the regional perspectives of forestry.
